Long-standing traditions dictated that most Hawaiian Kona is the Typica variety, descended from Guatemalan stock. The Stille and Munoz families, founders of Monarch Coffee, are pioneers, bringing Gesha and Pacamara varieties to an island known for expensive but somewhat traditional coffees.
For September, we are excited to return Monarch Coffee to our rare menu with a new fresh-crop Gesha variety from Kona. Winners of the Hawaiian coffee competition, these coffees are meticulously grown, harvested by the most highly trained pickers in Hawaii, and processed on the farm in a state-of-the-art facility.
Monarch Coffee constantly innovates, from its agronomy to its processing. The careful selection and exceptional fruit-dried processing (where the fruit, pulp, and seed are dried together) of this coffee produce an exceptionally clean cup with clarity of tamarind, honey, white grape, blackberry, and hazelnut.
- Producer: Monarch Coffee Estate, Abby and Sal Munoz
- Region: Kona, Hawaii, USA
