Juan De la Cerda Colom (2nd generation owner) always wanted to plant coffee. His father only allowed him under one condition: “Never become indebted”.
In 1999 Diego de la Cerda (3rd generation owner) began to manage the farm and make some changes not only in the production, but also in the coffee processing. The first year coffee was grown on El Socorro was 1980. Now the farm produces many varietals and exports coffee to more than 15 clients around the world.
Traditionally, coffee plants were grown under shade trees, which have been left in place in order to maintain the biodiversity. That has been one big factor that has improved the quality of our cup, alongside improvements in processing.
