Some countries produce amazing coffee, but politics, socio-economics and logistics undo much of the hard work of farmers. Yemen is one such place.
Every single element necessary for an outstanding coffee came together perfectly in this lot. While the discovery of Yemenia has dominated the news in the world of Yemeni coffee, it is no less thrilling to come upon this lot, which stood toe-to-toe with our Yemenia selection.
Nabeel is from the farming community of Wadi Aljanat, a lush valley in the mountains of Badan. There are no more than 60 farming families living here. The village is said to have practiced coffee agriculture for centuries. SL34 is thought to have arrived in Yemen in the early 1900s, spreading out much later than many of the other varieties present in Yemen. SL34 is also on a completely different branch of the coffee family tree from our other Yemeni offering.
