Nyampinga is a women's cooperative in Rwanda that we are so excited to share. Our buyer has worked with the women of Nyampinga since 2013, making this a very special coffee for goodboybob. In the local Kinyarwanda language, Nyampinga means “beautiful women, inside and out.” This washed processed bourbon variety comes from the southern Nyaruguru region of Rwanda, which borders the Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of the best-preserved montane rainforests in Africa.
The small-holder farmers who comprise the Nyampinga cooperative are incentivized to focus on quality through many support and training programs. This has allowed Nyampinga to reach new levels of quality (including making an appearance in the US Barista Competition). As a result, not only is the coffee tasting amazing, but farmers earn more for their coffee than many others through the premium prices paid for their hard work and dedication.
This coffee is ideal for an afternoon pick-me-up. Delicate yet very present are the notes of black currant, hazelnut, and dark chocolate, with distinct tropical fruit acidity and a velvety body.
- Farm: Nyampinga Cooperative
- Region: Nyaruguru
- Variety: Bourbon
- Processing: Washed

I drink a lot of African coffees. Ethiopia and Kenya are usually my favorite countries but this Rwanda was stellar. Bright, juicy, and full of flavor. I enjoy it as an espresso (I'm using a Rancilio Rocket) but my wife prefers it as a french press. Big fan.
