We sourced this Brazilian auction lot in collaboration with Brazilian Brewers Cup champion (and 3rd in the World) Garam Um and our supplier Spot On Coffees.
This coffee hails from Daterra Masterpieces auction, and is aptly named Virada, which translates to turning point. This coffee represents a turning point in Brazilian coffee.
This is the Laurina variety, a natural mutation of Bourbon (named after Reunion Island, formerly named Bourbon Island after the French Royal Family, the colonists of this land. It’s also know by the name Bourbon Pontu due to the elongated and pointed shape of the coffee seeds.
Laurina is known for it’s low caffeine content, ⅓ to ½ of more common arabica varieties, and it’s exceptional sweetness and balanced muted lactic acidity.
The microlot was processed with a anaerobic fermentation technique that brings a sparkling acidity and expressing flavors of orange blossom, marshmallow, pineapple, and passion fruit.
