Ecuador as a coffee producing country has become synonymous with very high end coffees. Our first experience with Ecuadorian coffee was in 2014, when our roaster Ryan used a cidra varietal in the US Brewers Cup Championships. Since the beginning of our cafe we have made room for the beauty of Ecuadorian coffee at goodboybob. It’s truly unique.
Cidra, a hybrid of Ethiopian heirloom typica and red bourbon, has a bit of a convoluted background. As the story was told to us, it was bred at the Nestle experimental farm in Ecuador, and once it was deemed useless for them, it was secretly released to surrounding farmers, many formerly rose farmers. Over time it came to be seen for it’s incredibly unique profile and has been a favorite of competitors for years now.
