Colombia Eiver Gomez Melo (Last Roast on Nov 2)
Tastes Like: Blackberry, Red Currant, Citrus, Cocoa
Eiver’s forever role model is his uncle, Lucas Melo. Today, these two are not just family, they‘re business partners and they work together to produce some of the best Colombian coffees. Lucas gave Eiver a small plot of his farm, El Cairo, for him to start producing coffee on and they post-harvest process their coffee together at the house below the farm. With this small plot, Eiver is the 4th generation of coffee producers in his family.
At 2,300 meters above sea level in the department of Nariño, you can find El Cairo, the beautiful farm that Eiver shares with Lucas. About a decade ago, when the coffee crisis arrived and prices were really difficult and Lucas’ wife begged him to sell the farm and leave the world of coffee, but Lucas never gave up on coffee. And as the old saying goes: the apple never falls far from the tree, Eiver inherited from his uncle the same passion for coffee. Above all, Eiver inherited the love for challenges. 2014, was the first year when Eiver submitted a coffee lot in Cup of Excellence, and although he didn’t make it to the international round, he tries to compete every year since then. This has allowed him to position himself as a specialty coffee producer. In 2018, he finally reached the auction and his coffee made it to 5th place in the competition. Eiver likes everything about coffee, he usually cups his coffee to find ways to improve his quality. In fact, he plans to grow Gesha now as he’s looking for the perfect cup profile.
